I believe anybody that can play simple melodies on one instrument can translate it to another instrument. I don’t think that choosing an instrument is the first step when somebody wants to learn the music. Anyway, I find ukulele, table apps, ukulele bass, keyboard, xylophone most useful instruments for the beginner’s phase.
